Hi Jake! If you're asking about a difference in the release of the medicine, like "sustained release" or "controlled release" or "extended release", then I don't think there is a difference. At least, I've not seen any advertising about that. The differences are supposed to be because the active ingredients are different chemicals, and behave differently in the body, even though they all have similar mechanisms of action.
As tinmuning wrote, officially Cialis is absorbed faster, and eliminated from the body more slowly, whereas Viagra is apparently more slowly absorbed (and can be affected more by what you eat prior to taking the pill), but is cleared from the body faster. As you wrote, 4 hrs of "effective time" is enough, and potentially that could mean you suffer any side effects for less time as well. For some people, of course, having a 240-minute clock running in the background adds stress at a time when it's least desired. And the reality for some people is that spontaneity makes "scheduling" activities difficult, and a 4-hr clock (or a 1-hour wait period) is problematic.
But really, the comment by BostonBruin55 is not trivial: It can be different for everyone! You just need to try these medicines (your physician can give you some free samples) to see which one works best for YOU.
I have observed three other TYPES of generic viagra products for sale on the various pharmacy websites here on pharmacyreviewer.com that might be of interest to you. One is the "soft tabs" (aka "oral lozenges", aka "chewable") another is oral jelly, and a third is "strips". These are intended to be kept in the mouth or under the tongue and allowed to dissolve, where the medicine can be absorbed directly into the blood. Supposedly this gets the medicine to act faster (some sites claiming in as little as 10 minutes) by avoiding the digestive system. The strips intrigue me, but the pricing puts them out of my reach. I may try the oral jelly soon. My experience with soft tabs was not satisfactory, but I might have been sold counterfeit pills. Or maybe sublingual just doesn't work well for me. Again, it varies from person to person, you would just need to try them.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
