I miss being able to get a pain killer from my doctor when I need it
I have similar thoughts. But also indulge in cynicisms. If I didn't know any better, I would think that some larger "players" somehow profit from the prohibition. That is, with greater risk, the market demands greater return. Prohibition has been talked about as a great price support for commodities that would otherwise be fairly inexpensive. Its weird I remember what seems like a lifetime ago first coming to this site, before we saw the long term effects of alot of things we are seeing now. I was just trying to understand the meds i was prescribed and came across this site. Now its just such a different world. I am so glad that this community has survived for so long. I know this is probably some nostalgic type rant I'm on but, dang how messed up everything became. It used to be a pain dealing with doctors, well at least for some of my own personal issues but ya know it was like you actually had doctors that had a relationship that I feel like has kind of disappeared. Now going into what is hopefully the end of the pandemic, I wanted to have access to things but now everything is so just disconnected. Anyone else want to go back to those days? lol. I deleted the rest of my rant into how doctors, meds, drugs, technology has changed so drastically since I first came across PR. I probably will wait to get back into the senior thread as to not open up on topics that might not make sense to newer members. But anyways I thought some nostalgic posts about early PR would be fun.
All I can say is that when the internet was first starting up and I found IOP’s, I thought my days of worrying about access to my preferred med were over. I couldn’t begin to imagine what has now taken place. The whole world has turned into “big brother.” Geezus I wish they’d stop taking such “good” care of us…
Am watching the series Narcos. Do we EVER learn from the past? The incredible amount of violence and bloodshed that is a result of the whole world’s “war on drugs” is mindblowing. I just can’t believe in this whole international attempt to control the flow of substances that continue to, and likely always will continue to be in demand - that they haven’t learned they will never win? The amount, the cost and the demand is ever increasing. Yeah it blows my mind. I just can’t believe that someone wise enough will start to see that a completely new approach is called for.

Historically, liquor prohibition took small crime outfits and made them into big "multinationals".
Then there are the banks who take a big cut off the laundering. The so-called War on Drugs is another bonanza for agencies that can always keep coming, hat-in-hand to the legislature for bigger budgets (and salaries) and also profit from asset forfeitures. It's a "racket" all its own.
Well, that's two rants for the day - now I'll quiet down!
Many countries have made drugs legal and received increased tax revenue as well as worker output & happy citizens overall. It should all be legal in my opinion.People should be able to use common sense or just die due to stupidity.I have similar thoughts. I think you could definitely be on to something, but I also feel that, despite the legality and complete acceptance of alcohol, just about everyone is rather appalled at the idea of putting other drugs into the same category as alcohol - regulated and controlled but legal. And despite my own “libertarian” views when it comes to “we should be able to make our own choices about what we imbibe” it still is a pretty scary thought to do this, even to me.
There has to be some middle ground somewhere tho. Any move couldn’t be worse than what’s going on now. I think a lot of the problems surrounding drug use would lessen if folks had easy access to lesser “tier” drugs - say - codeine versus heroin or adderal versus meth. (Just some examples.) I don’t know. I just know that if you’re managing your life and not breaking laws or losing jobs/marriages over drug use, it should be no one else’s business. But once you jump into becoming homeless and doing nothing but stealing to use and survive - then I think society has a right and an obligation to intervene.
It’s a tough issue with certainly no one answer. I do think the crackdown by customs did come about because so many folks did way overuse and too many killed themselves. Not to mention a lot of them were inexperienced kids and so understandably, parents want SOMETHING done.
Drug use and misuse seems to be skyrocketing no matter what the laws are. I wonder why and what that is all about in general…
I was just saying on another thread that we need a "remember when?" thread, and here it is....
remember when?....here's one story.....
....I recall being in FL in the late 1990's, while there, I had a very painful thrombosis and went to the ER and they gave me an Rx for pain med's and I didn't even ask for it. It was just second nature then to write a prescription for any painful condition. The irony was that I was down there to help an elderly family member that was recovering from surgery. They had literally showered her with med's, so many (and I kid you not), that she had a bag full of loose mixed pills that she didn't need anymore, b/c they had changed up her script. I offered to sort the med's out for her and put them in labeled bottles, but she didn't need them anymore, so she just asked me to get rid of them. I threw them out all right, but not before I sorted out the good stuff for my own little care package. Talk about a "goody bag". Pill mills and oxy "blues" were the trademark of the day, back then.
I absolutely remember. My meds were cheaper and easy to get…then they were scheduled. Oddly, the opium problem skyrocketed after that. Coincidence? I don’t think so. I honestly think a lot of lives could have been saved by keeping the status quo.
It's, at least, partly on them and they lose out for signing on to the gestapo program.Yeah back in the day. Western union must've taken a big hit after bitcoins.
Hoping the good ole WU days might be back with Bitcoin being so damn difficult to use and people realizing it's more like a casino than a bank.Yeah back in the day. Western union must've taken a big hit after bitcoins.
