Is hydrocodone OTC in Mexico?

Recommended Pharmacies on Pharmacy Reviewer

@Loubitan - be careful - Neo-Percodan is ACTUALLY just Darvocet in disguise (that's the name they use for it down there) - I've had more than one friend get ripped off by an unscrupulous IOP selling Neo-Percodan and thinking they were getting the equivalent to US Percodan!

I went to cancun a while back, I went to ton's of pharmacy's.. Probably like 10 and nobody had anything better than tramadol... I was very upset,

They did however have various benzos, but they were at Extremely high prices...

Pain meds in Mex

It was years ago when a bunch of friend of mine were making trips to Brownsville and such for phamacuticals. That is when we found out the strongest pain meds in border towns are Nubain, codeine, and morphine sulfate(some time). Now as for hydro- it was available if you were to venture much inland. i couldn't tell you why but it was not around in the tourist towns. However i heard of people getting it from a dentists, but i can't verify that. My 2ct's.

in border towns and tourist towns it is available from under the counter but don't expect it to be cheap. they import it from this country and charge out the wasu for it. last time i was in cabo they were $100 for 30 . cheaper to order from one of thje b.i.'s and take them with you when you go down there. that's what i do,.

Yeah, it's not like it used to be. The Mexican govt needed US help to make it to the twenty first century. In exchange the US demanded their govt clean house and start combatting drug cartels. Of course being good neighbors, we helped them write their new policies in 2007; and pledged money, weapons, training, and air support. Mexican drug policy now resembles what conservative republicans would like to see here; only govt medical facilities can prescribe and dispense opiates. They are only given for the most severe, traumatic injuries, or for cancer pain. Everything else gets good old Tramadol. .

The pharamacia in the Cancun airport carries Soma. For some reason I got a kick out of that.

As far as Hydro, I've always been told a big no and trying to get it by asking around is sure to get you in deep! I think others have already posted that but just adding a vote for what I've been told.

There was one in Cabo that sold 5mg loritab about 10 years ago, but it wasn't exactly advertised, and I haven't been back since to know whether they still do. On a side note, did no one notice the op said he lived in Florida and drove over the border whenever he wanted? There isn't a bridge across the gulf of Mexico...

I would assume mexican pharmacies carry a derivative of hydrocodone as I remember awhile back they had a derivative of oxycontin.

There is no such thing as a "derivative" of hydrocodone or OxyContin. The drug is either hydrocodone/oxycodone or it's not.
At one time, both of these prescription medications were manufactured in Mexico but their distribution was highly regulated by the government and only prescribed by specially licensed physicians, almost always in a hospital setting.
They might currently be somehow available via a very shady pharmacy there but buying and selling them would be just as illegal as dealing heroin across the counter.
Caveat emptor big time. Mexican prisons are muy malo.

Do you know of any legit Mexican ops that carry Otc soma?

Most Mexican pharmacies aren't even legally allowed to carry scheduled meds.

They have to jump through a number of hoops to be allowed to legally carry scheduled meds. Obviously, these pharms will require a prescription from a Mexican doctor.

It has been well documented the danger of going to border towns looking for pharms illegally.

Thanks for the feedback.I was actually just looking for an iop that isn't across the pond as the Brits say

No, it isnt OTC legally. But if you leave the tourists areas you might be able find it OTC in a shady pharmacy. I did that during my stay in mexico

Thank you all for your informative feedback and information, this is the exact topic I was looking for. After seriously considering heading to Tijuana Mexico for meds I now have second thoughts. Thanks again!!

No Hydro is not legal in Mexico as a matter of fact they can't even but the stuff. You go to TJand play there silly game you can get pills for about 7.00 a piece. I always had better luck fins drugs in the boarder towns just find the right your better than the swewer.

I'm sure this would be very worthwhile feedback if I could figure out why they can't "but the stuff" or how "your better than the swewer."
I do know, however, that hydrocodone medications are currently "legal" in Mexico but, along with oxycodone, are only prescribed by a very limited number of specially-licensed physicians and used almost exclusively in hospital settings.
So, I guess, they actually can "but the stuff" under the right circumstances.

If you decide to go to TJ, please bring back a little something for good ole Keith. Upon your return from the border, I'm listed in the book.

A few weeks ago I caught a show on national geographic called drugs.inc pill nation. You might can find it on youtube. Anyway a segment of it featured Americans going to Tijuana to buy oxycontin. They had a local guide who set up the deal for them and were able to get 5 80mg oxycontin for $150 at a pharmacy, which is not too much lower than the street price in the U.S. It was an illegal transaction though. I personally would be too chicken to ever pursue getting pain killers in mexico!

I saw that show @redman and I wasn't convinced that was even a real doctor.

I feel like you have a strong chance of being conned by someone 'acting' as a doctor w/ a white coat and script pad due to the large profits being made.

I didn't consider that @jimmyfingers but that is probablly true. I'm willing to bet that most tourists couldn't tell if a doctor in tijuana was on the level or just a conman.

@redman

I don't have much knowledge about pharm shopping in border towns. However, I wouldn't be risking my freedom by accepting pills that a doctor calls a dealer for and then writes some scribble on a sheet of paper.
