Is hydrocodone OTC in Mexico?

Recommended Pharmacies on Pharmacy Reviewer

I know your talking about Mexico but I wanted to share that the Phillippines is the same way there never even heard of such medications even in the hospitals so no luck there.

You can (get) just about anything overthere, right price, and a good(guide)will deliver.just think tho sitting in a MEXICO jail! NO MEDS NO MONEY, NO HOPE! NO THANKS! GOOD OLE USA DOCKS!!!

Forgive me for putting my two cents here as I lived in Mexico for 14 years and ran a veterinary supply company and worked closely with a good friend of mine who owned a rather large farmacia and dealt with his suppliers and whatnot. When I left 3 years ago hydrocodone and oxycodone were impossible to procure from any provider or pharmacy supply that sold to Mexican pharmacies. Sure it is listed In the PDR, but try to order it and it is discontinued. No controlled medications are allowed to be sold without prescription.. Things like temgesic, morphine and a few others require special prescriptions. Tramadol was OTC and is what you will get recommended by a doctor, most will suggest diclofenac or some otheher NSAID. Opiates just aren't a part of the culture so to speak. You could see corrupt docs in border towns for codeine, benzos and bupe, but they rat you out and you will end up paying the cops whatever cash you have on you. You would probably get to keep your bottle of codeine that just cost you 300 dolares but it's not worth it. To my knowledge any hydro or oxy that you can get in Mex is from the USA and from what I have seen on pill nation is crazy expensive. Definitely not even worth the risk or trouble. pLUS Mexican border towns are shitholes. They are like doormats everyone goes in and out thru them, leaving their trash there. Go farther south and enjoy the culture and food. Stay out of the borderntowns.... Alejense de las cuidades fronterizas...no les ofrecera nada bueno.

THere are a very limited quantity of pharm grade opiates in Mexico in general. So much so that even folks who desperately need these medications can not get them. There is very little manufacture of opiates in Mexico and the US is incredibly tight with what they import down to mexico for fear of diversion back across the border.

Maybe some places they will be. I didn't have any problems in Cabo, but border towns are more risky.

If anyone goes to Cabo, I have a legit pharmacy there. Guy is friendly and very helpful.
What is the pharmacy? I'm heading out of town and am afraid of running out of my meds down there or TSA screwing me.

Here is my one Cabo experience. I wanted just Valium and the pharm had to send a runner out to get them. They came in a nice legit looking retail box with blisters and were total bunk.

So -
Hassle plus Risk of buying
plus Risk of bringing them back
= stress
and in the end I got screwed and bunk.

@Cj5962 you may find this interesting or not, but it's in your field. I had friends go down for some kind of graduation bash (so that would have to be 2001) and said all they could get were xan@x and Tokkyo Labs ket@mina (with a big cat on the box). I have seen that particular brand myself, only stateside, and it said MF'D in Mexico.

This is totally outdated but quite a few years back i went to mexico city for a visit and was able to buy valium otc for a reasonable price. No doc or script was required, just certain pieces of green paper in sufficient quantity.

This is information from the US Consulate in Tijuana (their web site.) As suggested above purchasing valium and other controlled substances while visiting in Mexico may require a visit to a local MD.

Buying Prescription Drugs in Mexico
1
Mexico’s laws governing medicines are similar to those in the United States. Any drug classified as a controlled medicine cannot be purchased in Mexico without a Mexican prescription. This prescription must be written by a Mexican federally registered physician. Purchasing a controlled medicine without a valid prescription in Mexico is a serious crime for both the purchaser and the seller. Purchasing a controlled medicine with a U.S. prescription is not sufficient and is illegal, regardless of what the Mexican pharmacy may be willing to sell to the purchaser. By law, Mexican pharmacies cannot honor foreign prescriptions.

In Mexico, medications such as Valium, Vicodin, Placidyl, Ambien, codeine, pseudoefedrine, Demerol, morphine, and Ativan are not legally sold over-the-counter without a valid prescription from a Mexican physician. If the purchaser succeeds in purchasing controlled medicines without a prescription, Mexican police can arrest the purchaser and vendor and charge them with possession/sale of a controlled substance. The sentence for possession of a controlled substance runs from ten months to fifteen years in a Mexican prison. Making such an illegal purchase also puts the buyer at risk for various extortion scams perpetuated by police officials (who sometimes work in league with the very pharmacy that sold the medication).

There are a number of medications considered controlled substances in Mexico which are not controlled in the United States. To find out if a medication is considered controlled in Mexico, purchasers should ask their Mexican physician or pharmacist. Purchasers may also refer to the following Mexican government website (in Spanish, listing generic and brand names) for information on controlled substances in Mexico: http://www.cofepris.gob.mx/Paginas/Inicio.aspx.

To bring the medications into the United States, travelers will need to show a valid U.S. prescription to the inspector at the Port of Entry. The U.S. prescription is in addition to the Mexican prescription used to purchase the medications in Mexico. For more information on bringing medications into the United States, purchasers may refer to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website: CBP.gov - home page.

Over the last few years, there have been several highly publicized arrests of Americans purchasing controlled medications without a Mexican prescription. We hope to reduce the numbers of Americans arrested in Mexico for possession of controlled items by disseminating this information.

@Pharmacysleuth i'm sure you are correct at least in theory. At least for those not able to pay the required bribe, its a sad situation. Like i said, this was a long time ago. I would not chance bringing anything across the border now days. Why put your @$$ on the line when a paper envelope can take all the risk. "Put that envelope away for 10 years!!!"

One day, not too distant in the future, we will be able to order through the darknet and get in country meds delivered without customs issues. That day is today but prices are a little too high. Sorry about the ot.

This sounds incredibly dangerous to seek these types of medications in Mexico. I saw one program where a reporter lady found a guide that took her to a doctor and he was able to obtain oxycontin for her and write a prescription so she could cross the border with it. What unfolded was the doctor calling up some runner and having the pills delivered directly to his office, essentially the doctor is just a dealer.

If you are able to find these types of meds you will most certainly be paying street prices for them and putting yourself in danger of being arrested/extorted by the police or pharmacy. Not to mention the current climate of any border town with the cartels being at war with each other and the police.

To me what would be interesting is a list of meds that are available over the counter in MX that are not in the USA. Meds that some of us might find useful here which I realize is a broad range.

So I noticed Ambien is controlled, darn. What about any other sleep agents, muscle relaxers, etc?

I suffer from insomnia and really need to mix up my methods outside of benzos. I have scrips for benzos anyways and could always order them.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I am down south of the border in a few weeks.

Gracias.

I lived about 5 miles across the border from Juarez for 9 years. Don't even try to go over there. They will set you up if you go to a pharmacy and you'll end up in a Mexican prison if you don't have enough cash to get yourself out of the situation or worse. They'll kill you for $20. It used to be super easy to get whatever you wanted in Juarez until the drug wars broke out in 2007.

how about a country like Ecuador? Is it the same there for being setup? Are different meds available?

if you could give me the name that would be great

When I was 18-20 I went to mexico every month or so for my limit on everything. You got a bunch of tafil Xanax, vallium, rhyponol, and I want to say about 100 neo percosets. You used to get through the border no problem, but had to worry about the 90 mile border patrol. I was too young and dumb to know better. Anyway the point of the story is the bst opiate available there at the time was neo percoset, and they were about as strong as tylenol4 w/ codine.

Point is that there isnt shit in mexico(opiates) worth the effort unless there has been any new developmen that I never knew about.

It's not available unless anywhere legally. They have almost the same rules we have now. You would need to see a doctor (medico) for about $20 and get a prescription.

From what i hear opiates aren't even available from a doctor. You can only get them from certain specialists and they sell them right there in the hospital.

Best place to get narcotics in mexico? Same place as in usa, on the street. I wouldn't do it, why go that far to get ripped off when you can do it here? Going back you risk everything getting caught at the border. I hear even the sy vendors send from inside usa rather than mexico. Just passing along the scuttlebut.

Hello, you can get it in mexico but only with a prescription. I tried getting it but i do not know any pharmacy that has it. They alwasy say its not legal.
