@jaders good idea about the library! I did that a few years ago and my small town library system‘s technology really sucked! I have a feeling it has gotten better now. I love the internet although I’m not too big on social media. I love having access to knowledge. And podcasts! I was the kid who read encyclopedias for fun. i grew up in the 60’s where my mom got a volume a month for buying groceries at some little supermarket…crazy.

Yeah the most common app to deliver e-content for libraries is Overdrive or Libby and it's gotten much more "user friendly."

I often think how I can ask virtually any question on the net and 99 percent of the time come up with useful info. And I wonder who the heck is actually putting IN all this info? It's crazy. I sure think the term "information age" is extremely apt...

I have to say I love my Kindle and my library app, but I really miss going into the bookstore and looking at all the books. Sometimes I like to have a book in my hands instead of my iPad. As much as I love ebooks, I’d be devastated if my small local bookstore closed. I buy books from there on occasion to support it.

I've only read on my iphone and tablet since they started ebooking my favorite authors. I can take a book anywhere, and read it on either one pretty seamlessly. the convenience is just too great. now the spine fold really bugs me on paper books.

@blecher59, I still look for new titles at the book store - but read them on my tablet.

I mostly reread the same 50 or so books over and over again though. I used to have 1,000's of paper books, there just aren't enough good ones I like now.

I mostly read all day now :0)

You might want to check out a site called goodreads.com. if you haven't before. It really is helpful for finding new authors/books. That's definitely always the hardest part - finding new good books.

I've gotten really lazy and am pretty much all audiobooks now. I can listen while doing all sorts of activities and chores. E readers and phones have really transformed media, imho. I used to have to download a bunch of cd's to listen on my phone. Now I can be traveling anywhere and get new books in a few minutes. I'm pretty happy with all this new technology!

"They say" that hard copy books are sort of making a comeback. At least the ebook phenomenon has slowed. I think many folks feel as you do. Don't want the bookstores to go away completely. But as @Cowardly Cop says, the convenience is just too great to ever go back to books alone. It sort of reminds me of LP records. Some folks still love them, but it's a very small group anymore. I certainly remember loving to go to the record stores too. Everything changes, doesn't it?

I have a hard time reading books on a device. I like actual books. It's strange cause I am constantly reading other content on the web so not sure what my deal is.

Kindle has its bright side - portable and fits a lot of books. But it's hard to beat the real book - biggest difference I see that I can go back a chapter or two, make written notes (kindle handles it too but the experience just feels off).

@jaders, yeah I'm all in on streaming stuff. I've rid myself of my DVD collection, my CD collection, and my book collection over the years. it's just too convenient to stream, at least as long at the lights stay on... which might not be forever anymore.

I friggin love reading.

I don't know. The library is free but you have to visit and return them on time. The KindLe is easier, no dragging a book around. I guess I like a book, but I need large print these days. They are not so easy to get.

Some books have great illustrations that I must have in hard copy. But space is limited so 90% of what I read is an e-version.

I love the sensory experience of printed books, but Kindles are so much easier to hold. Especially on days when my hands hurt or they're stiff.

I've always wanted to have my own personal library fully of thousands of books, but as someone who has moved 13 times in 18 years, I gave up on that idea.

covid ruined the library so i started using my kindle more. now with the help of online sites i haven't been to the library in over two years. the first few months the library let you order books for pick up, but of course you needed to know the titles and couldn't browse. i did it once but it's nice to find books and download them without leaving the house. i remember when we first got "word processors" and i would always write out things in longhand before typing them in. now i can do everything on my cheap kindle without leaving the bed.

The library in my town has a pretty good online inventory with books and podcasts. We’re in the process of cleaning out the house in preparation for major renovations so we’re donating all our books. Never thought I’d give up paper for ebooks but here we are.
