I wanted to highlight some of the great new features of the forum software:

Contents of this long post:
1. Private messaging system
2. Instant notifications
3. A new improved way to alert moderators
4. Following people and creating your own news feed
5. New ignore feature

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Private messaging system.
In terms of key new features, you can now invite extra people to an ongoing PM conversation, and you can now attach files to PMs. Please see this post for more details about how to use the new PM system.

2. Instant notifications, also known as "push notifications".
You can now get instant notifications when someone replies to a PM, when someone @mentions you, when someone likes one of your posts, the list goes on. You can change your settings to get notified for only the things you care about. The notifications will arrive in your browser even if you are not on Pharmacy Reviewer at the time, and they are instant!

To turn on notifications, click the link which should appear at the bottom of your screen when you first log on to the new forum. Here it is in Firefox:

Alternatively, go to your preferences by clicking your username and then the preferences menu link, and enable "push notifications" there. Then you can scroll down the same preferences screen to select exactly what you wish to receive push notifications about.

I HIGHLY recommend this new push notifications feature! :clapping:

3. Alerting moderators.
You can now alert all the moderators to a post by simply typing @Mods. This will alert me, Kerry, Tinmuning, Pat and Remi, all at the same time and whoever is online first can investigate. You can also report posts, as in the old forum, and again we will all be alerted to the post report. If you feel that a post has broken the forum rules it is much better to report the post as it will disappear while it is being moderated and we can deal with it more systematically.

4. Following people to create your own personalized news feed.
You can now "follow" people whose posts you find interesting. Their posts will show up in your own personalized what's new feed called "Your news feed"
Everyone who was in your friends list in the old forum will have been transferred to the list of people you follow. The difference with the old forum is that you can follow anyone, you don't need to be friends with them or ask their permission to follow them. In this way it is more like the "follow" button in Facebook, or Twitter, than the "Add friend" button in Facebook. I hope this will create an even more connected forum and new friendships. But in the event you do not want someone to follow you, you can choose to ignore them.

5. There is now a mutual ignore feature. If you ignore someone you can also block the person from seeing your posts and writing you PMs. I hope this will not be widely used but it is an option which gives you more control.

Any questions related to the above or other aspects of the new forum software please comment below.

@Admin. Maybe this has been talked about before however I am a bit confused about “what’s new”. The problem I’m having is that the picture shows that of the threats starter, who may be long gone, not the picture of the person who made the last post. Additionally when you open that thread It starts with the thread starters first post or page one. . So you have to jump all the way to the last page. I think that the last person to have posted should have their picture on the “what’s new“ page (not the thread starter) and that it should automatically go to the last page and not the first page. Thank you very much for listening to me. M

I like the new ignore feature.

Please don't load any bouncing banana emoticon packages. They're the worst.

I agree it is a bit confusing. However if you click the time of the last post link on the right, for example "10 minutes ago", it will take you directly to the latest post.

Awesome with awesome sauce! I dig the 'alert all the mods' feature! The few times in the past when I've had to report something, my mind goes completely blank and I can never remember who to tag.

Thanks for all the work you put into PR, Dr.B and the mods! I sure appreciate it and you all! :)

I didn’t like it at first but it’s grown on me. Now if someone could tell this bonehead how to quote someone’s post that’d be great! I know it’s something simple I’m missing lol
This guys for you @MRNUTTY

We need a laughing button to click just like the “like” button for posts like this, lol. Nice one @MRNUTTY. :)
Well, upon further investigation I see that we do! @Admin you’ve outdone yourselves. This revamp is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Thank you!

@Admin, You guys are really the best and you take a lot of nonsense from people like me, so I greatly appreciate stuff you do. Anyway, one thing that's difficult to deal with in the thread "The Song Game" is since it's been updated, the new entries don't seem to register as quickly as they used to register. I have noticed when I'm done posting, I exit the thread and I look at who posted last on that thread and it's not me, so there is a delay with letting us know of the last post's author. It would make sense that at the same time, the post itself is delayed. With the song game, a delay sort of screws us up. I wonder if that can be fixed?

I will look into this. I am sure it can be made to update quicker.

On edit: @jakemoe I think you might be using the back button in your browser because that is the only way I could reproduce this. If you do click the back button please refresh the screen and tell me if you still don't see yourself as the latest poster. I believe others will see you as the latest poster a second after you post.

I do believe you're right on! Thank you much for your help!

@Admin. Is there a way I can always be sure I’m in the senior section? It seems I could easily differentiate the difference by looking at the top of the page in the old system. Am I missing something? Thanks for your great work!

There is a navigation "breadcrumb" at the top of each thread's page to show where you are. In the Seniors' Section it will read
Forum > Senior members forum >

Oh, thank you, Lady! I'm still around but not a whole lot. I've gotten really active (and mouthy...) politically so I've mostly been
keeping my very opinionated self out of PR to keep from becoming 'that person'. lol! I know, who'da'thunk it?!? Little, (mostly)
polite Mrs. Parker raising hell and yelling at politicians and trying to enact change until she's blue in the face, but 2020 has certainly
brought odder things than that. (I mean, really, did anybody have "murder hornets" on their 2020 apocalypse bingo cards?!?
I sure as heck didn't!)
But it sure is nice to be missed and thought of! Thank you, my friend! I hope you and yours are doing ok. <3
