Okay I know it's not Coltrane or Miles Davis (both phenomenal) but I've always loved the album I had of these two:

Thanks for joining the thread with that song! There are a lot of jazz artists not named Davis or Coltrane that are excellent, as is aptly demonstrated by your post.

When I see this thread I have read "The great @Jazie thread" I have taken a recent interest in deeper blues than what I have heard on the radio and am veering towards some Jazz to unwind. Miles Davis is the only one that I am familiar with. And its great feel good music.I am finding that I really like old old blues and jazz, I want to say from the 30s and 40s. I know they are 2 different genres but there are many crossovers so to speak. I have to get away from what Ive listened to as an adult except the grateful dead, the dead is my go-to music for all moods.

Im going to pop in here and pay attention to names you all post.

How about Kenny G? Just kidding, please do not have me banned from the forum.

Aside from some of the GREAT suggestions above, maybe try some Coleman Hawkins, definitely check out Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus and Willie Dixon. Also, although it is sort of a subset of jazz, Annie Ross if you like cool vocals (I believe she still performs every Tuesday at the Metropolitan Room in Manhattan).

Hi Teresita. If you are a fan of Jerry Garcia's guitar playing, as I am, you may want to check out some of his jazz and blues related side projects. His work with Merl Saunders is more blues based, while his music with keyboardist Howard Wales leans more toward hard bop and free jazz. On the first page of this thread I posted an acoustic performance of his with David Grisman of a Miles Davis song; they recorded an album of jazz together. I'll post more examples when I am by my computer. Cheers.

LOVE me some Wayne Shorter. Great song. As far as Garcia/Grisman, if you haven't already, look into their albums. They played a lot of other stuff besides jazz, and it's all good. Good to have ya aboard!

Thank you, I will definitely check it out. At first I thought it might be a duo that Jerry had called the "Grateful Dawgs" but after I listened to it(very good) its mostly just 12 bar blues tunes.

Grateful Dawg is actually Garcia and David Grisman. Grisman's nickname is Dawg.
