Building up and then maintaining a stockpile of your necessary medications is something I feel is very important. As all of us are within the same unpredictable world of the IOP, and the USPS, we need to try and be prepared. The disaster that hit the US on August 18 last year has forced many people to make some drastic changes in their ordering procedures.

More and more people are now willing to take the chance they have to take, making overseas online orders. The USA is in constant chaos over a war on drugs. Anyone and everyone who uses meds, legally and illegally, for legit pain needs and for getting high, are lumped together as one. We are all instantly labelled drug addicts and drug abusers.

The very nature of the IOP world is a gamble. The best IOP of this year, can turn into the biggest and worst ripoff, scam outfit next year. Therefore, I look at every order as if it may be my very last one. Because ,well, it really could be.

As I have gotten to know the forum, and read many posts, both to my threads and others, I have gotten to really like and appreciate everyone's willingness to both receive and give information.

So from my deductions, I think a majority of the people here are okay with ordering a ninety day supply of their most needed medications, but no more than that. I'm not going to argue for or against this logic.

So let's say you order a 90 day supply. Use it as per your dosage schedule until you have exactly a 30 day supply left. On that day reorder a new 90 day supply. You are now awaiting for your order to arrive, and have 30 days of meds in hand. Let's say the order comes in 14 days. Immediately take the remaining 16 day supply and put it in it's own storage area, by itself. This may look small, but it is the start of your stockpile.

Now start using the new order, until you once again have a 30 day supply left. Reorder. Maybe it comes in 10 days this time. Take the remaining 20 days worth you have left, and add it to the stockpile you started the last order. You now have a 36 day stockpile of doses stored away. Repeat this same scenerio every time. Even with varying deliveries, you will be able to add your remaining meds from the previous order to your stockpile every time.

It won't happen overnight, but you will be quite pleased at the way your little stockpile grows. Hopefully you never hit a snag in the IOP trail. It happens, it's part of the ongoing gamble we play. Maybe an order gets caught, maybe the vendor goes out of business or runs out of your meds. This is the time to fall back on and start using your stockpile. Consider it an emergency stash, as it should be. Look at it as your IOP insurance policy.

Now if you are reading this, you really have no reason to panic if any of these things happen. Being a member of this forum should ensure that you will soon have a new vendor. Don't delay or stall about finding one and ordering, as a stockpile will not last forever. It's there to get you through an emergency, and you need to end the emergency as soon as you can.

Your stockpile will also dramatically change your whole outlook on your ordering, and actually life overall. It will lift a load of stress off of your shoulders, just having the knowledge that it's there, it's growing, and it's a safety net to keep the worst enemy of us all away, the withdrawals.

I have some more advice about having a stockpile though. Some, maybe many people, just cannot handle the self control to remain on a strict ordering schedule. They also have a very hard time of staying on their normal daily doses. So many people just say" I see more, I have more, so I can take more. It doesn't work that way. There is a lot of self control and will power needed to keep a running stockpile going. I am sure there are many who have or are building one know just what I mean. If you stock up excess meds, then go overboard and use bigger doses, more often, just because you have it, you will have problems.

The short time of increased enjoyment from using more meds until gone, will be replaced with likely an even worse withdrawal than you would normally have. Not only will you be coming off of higher usage amounts, the depression of knowing how you depleted and wiped out your emergency stash, especially when in withdrawals, will be all the harder to accept.

So you can see, it really doesn't take a lot of money or making big orders to build up that emergency stash. I would advise everyone to give this an honest try. You might be pleasantly surprised, and will certainly be relieved of some stress. No more counting on one hand your remaining pills, while desperately checking and rechecking for tracking updates. No more sleepless nights, wondering and praying for your order to arrive. Heck, even for it to move from A to B! No more laying in bed shivering, barely able to get up just enough to use the toilet and check the computer, as you withdraw out of meds, begging God for the mailman to just somehow today bring that letter!

Ordering a 90 day supply at the frequency of every 2 months should be agreeable to most of you, no matter how cautious. I would just like to see everyone here waiting on orders while feeling fine, not stressing and in withdrawals. I would venture to say maybe some of the senior members who have been around here forever might just have a system like this. It could be the reason they're still around giving advice and helping people. That's just a guess though.

Anyway, this thread is for those who think it takes a lot of money or the willingness to make big orders. It really doesn't have to be done that way at all. All it really takes is self discipline and self control, and the strong commitment to making your orders exactly when you need to. I hope this might help someone who has never been able to, or just never tried to stockpile. Being ahead is the best feeling to have in the IOP world. I want everyone to have that feeling.

Let me know if you agree with any of this, or maybe you have a better way to do it. Somebody might even be against a stockpile, and that's fine. Feel free to share why you do or don't like the stockpile idea, everyone's opinions and advice is always welcome to me.

Hey @davidpaul , I hate running out of meds through (my own) tardiness, then having to wait for x days / weeks for a new order to be processed then delivered, but my main worry about 'stockpiling' as opposed to 'arrive just in time' are:

* stockpiling and building up too much on-hand meds, then getting detected by customs / post / police and having a QTY that might categorize me as having more than just for personal use (ie intent to supply).

- spurious poor judgment (fight with GF, bad day at work, getting drunk etc) then taking more from the 'stockpile' that might be dangerous or lead to other problems (like taking too many sleeping pills and only realizing it 3 days later when i finally wake up *ahem*)...

I definitely think the stockpile idea is a great one.. It is not good to run out of meds... when you need them. Bad feeling. Everyone needs to look ahead. I see a lot of people not doing this and are desperate.. asking for help..even thoughts of suicide.. dangerous for some...

I'm so glad you took the time to write all of that out. I've thought of it many times and got lazy!
I think many of us have preached about getting orders in sooner rather than later and counting on the longer ship times rather than the shortest ever written about but something like this takes discipline and unfortunately, there are people that are not self disciplined enough to manage things consistently this way. All sorts of life events pop up and any small thing can throw a schedule off. I get it though that if you have 30 days to "play" with or as a cushion, many of the issues that cause anxiety are eliminated.

We all have different methods and different fears and different comfort zones. We all have to find out what works best for us and hopefully with the least amount of stress too! Just recently, I've been working on treating my IOP meds like I do all of my other meds and not think about trams as being more important than my bp meds. I need them both and therefore I have to make sure I have both. I have a small stash of bp meds too by the way LOL. Thats just the nature of the IOP beast... anything can happen so we need to be prepared. If we're going to take managing our health into our own hands then we have to manage it properly from start to finish and that includes making sure we have what we need without additional stress and anxiety due to shipping. We know shipping can take a long time. Prepare for it!
:)

Good post @davidpaul

@davidpaul

Nice thread buddy. Preparing for the worst is a must if you require daily medication you can't obtain through normal channels. Or if you have a dependency, running out of meds will obvously turn your world upside down.

The cost of stockpiling can be inhibitive for many, but saving loose change can really help. That's how I keep my stocks topped up to have few a weeks worth if the bills hit hard.

IOPs and Customs are a lottery and bring prepared for the worst can save you from a whole world full of hurt.

I'm really glad to see some responses. There is more I wanted to add to this thread. I'm going to do it by post, since the thread post is already as long as a novel.

There is another opportunity which will come up for you, if you maintain the schedule advised. As your stockpile grows, at some time it will reach the point where you have an extra 90 day supply for yourself. At that point, you can go ahead and prepare to make a bigger order. If you can get even one larger order under your belt, you may enable yourself to have put an end to ever having to withdraw again.

This is how I would advise to do it. When your next order arrives, do not add anything to the stockpile this time. Remember you have kept back a 90 day supply, plus have just received your regular 90 day supply. This time around you will use up the 90 day supply, and also 30 days of your stockpile. You also will not order at your usual 60 day mark, but be sure to hold on to the money.

At the 120 day mark, you would normally be placing another order. You should now have double the usual money you spend, and also 60 days of stock left. Most vendors offer a better deal for more quantity, so hopefully you will get a good deal for spending double the money you normally have.

The order will be on it's way to you, and you have two months of medication to use while waiting. Of course it won't take that long, but it's a very safe number in case of a problem and reship. When that big order comes, I cannot describe how relieved you will be. And also, how happy you will be gazing at so many meds, which are now all yours. Take out 90 days meds minus whatever you still have from the ones you were using when waiting. Stockpile the remainder.

If you got a great deal, and now have a very large stockpile, you can resume your usual ordering processes, and slowly keep adding even more to it.

Now if you decide to keep ordering large orders, then the figures and ordering times are different. You will probably need to only order once every 3 months instead of 2.

You can go as far and as long doing this system as you desire. If it's for years, and you maintain strictly to your regimen, you will likely be looking at thousands of tablets or pills in stock. I'm not kidding, and you won't have spent any more money than you would without stockpiling.

As my friend@Mira did state, it is not an easy thing for many of us. It can be a battle of self control. If you know that you won't be able to do this program, please don't try it. You will only depress yourself, and either be back to square one or in the hole. I would likely be blamed for getting you into that situation, and I truly don't want that to happen.

But anyone who wants to make a stockpile can do it, anyone. I hope to see everyone say goodbye forever to withdrawals!

As I've said many times, stocking up is essential these days. It's getting harder by the day to get your meds the "legal" route, so preparing for that rainy day is a must. I believe in doin' that with all of my heart. Nobody else is gonna care about you if things hit the fan so you have to look out for your self. Anyone that doesn't prepare will wish they had when they can no longer get the meds they need for anything that may come up. They will be in a world of hurt.

It's a great post and everyone should be reminded of this and do all they can while we're still able to. STOCK UP!

@davidpaul,

Isn't that needlessly complicated ? Such an elaborate plan. If you want a stockpile, you could just place an extra order as soon as you have received the previous one.

I agree with keeping a stock if you can handle it. It's just a matter of time till an order does not arrive or does not arrive in time.
But how much do you really want ? A stock that lasts a few months, or a few years ...

Of course there is always the risk of discovery of a stockpile. Whether that's an issue depends on where you live/who you live with, what medication you actually keep in stock, the local LE/legal situation, controlled deliveries/one LL too many ...
For most people, I guess a stockpile that lasts a few months is probably fine.

What I do with my stock pile is to hide little bits of it around the house in places most people would not think of looking. That way if someone finds some they most likely won't find them all.
Then I write down where I've hidden them in a code only I know. It's a pain in the arse to do that, but you have to be creative to keep you sedated. LOL
It's all about self preservation.

stored meds

The Navy did a study a few years a go to to check the effectiveness of many drugs after the expiration date went out. (They did not want to throw them out) I don't remember the exact numbers but I want to say after 5 years the effectiveness, most drugs had over 90% effectiveness. Not all drugs fit into this study, obviously the refrigerated drugs.... Back to the Point... Don't be afraid to stock pile.. my heart goes out to fold here that did not plan ahead or lost in Mail... Good Luck...

This was a great thread and superb advice! My lack of responsibility, well really my complacency, is one of the main reasons I'v found myself back in the iop world - although now I'm glad that I am. I had a few VERY rough weeks though due to lack of preparation and it's something I plan on never letting happen again. Due to funds and circumstances it can be hard sometimes for many of us to establish a "stock pile" but always hope for the best, and PREPARE for the worst is a good motto to live by in my book. Great Thread @davidpaul

I agree on having a stockpile or at least not having all of your eggs in one basket. With certain sites (however reliable) instituting limits on ordering, you can't necessarily stockpile through the normal ordering-every-other-week process I, at least, was used to to make sure I never ran out if I had a bad week or the mail was slow. So now I know you have to have a few 'irons in the fire'. Get as many reliable places as you can and be ready to taper down or have things on hand to withdraw with (like Valium/Klonopin) if necessary. (see the Thomas recipe I believe it's called for a good way to get things on hand if you want to taper down and withdraw, or if you have to).

Well davidpaul,

I agree with you in the way that all medicine buyers are seen as drug addicts by the government, does not matter if they do it for legitimate porpuse or not,all they do is trying to keep people from getting meds online or by doctor visits, specially schedule I or 2 drugs.

Regarding stockpile your meds,i think will depend on your needs.

I think an extra 90 day supply for yourself is a must.

What if you are hit bt a Hatrina like event be it tornado or wildfire?
If you have that extra 90 day supply that takes one more important thing not on your mind as you get your life back together.

Or a Sandy type event that got us up here in the NE.
Sure those events are rare but there was no mail delivered here for at least 2 weeks and many areas were unlivable. It would have sucked to be either waiting for a package that wasnt going to arrive any time soon or to run out because an order couldnt be made.

So yeah, 90 day supply and order with enough supply to cover potential delivery delays. So often we read posts of people hoping they'll get delivery in 5-7 days because thats all the supply they have left and then they post rants about how slow the vendor is or customs (they are...) and whatnot. If they had ordered 4-5 days sooner they wouldnt be worried about every minute of delay. I'm not talking about the occasional person that miscalculates, I'm talking about the ones that regularly wait till the last minute to order and then get upset because "this" package is taking a day longer than the "last" package.
None of us are really new to this any more but I get it that for some, obtaining and that whole process is part of the game. If I'm stressed reading about someone elses stress, I can only imagine how stressed they are...!

One lesson I learned is even a vendor that is consistent, over years, can disappear. So, never, ever get to a place where you feel comfortable and need not to worry. Definitely stockpile at least a 90 day supply. Unless, of course, you are masochistic, which hey, no judgment here.

@davidpaul - Mega-helpful thread, thank you! I am soooo grateful to this site, which saved my skin when I ran dangerously low on, erm, cough sweets, and my cough sweet source had retired. :)

You'd think, if the *authorities* ever look at this site, they would gain some understanding of what people are going through and stop acting like the Gestapo over the issue of meds. But no... I don't suppose they give a damn. Good luck to each one of THEM if they ever find themselves in a state of chronic pain/ anxiety/ whatever.
