Vyvanse

@billyboy I absolutely agree when it comes to the commercials. I googled to see how many countries allowed it and I found this :
"The United States and New Zealand are the only two countries where direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising of prescription drugs is legal." Out of the whole world only 2 countries, crazy! I basically was just curious if anyone had any experience with it for B.E.D. My GP doesn't prescribe anything controlled, my psychiatrist does though. I'm sensitive to stimulants so was just curious if anyone had experience with it dosed for B.E.D. :)
There are studies which show Vyvanse is effective for B.E.D., though I don't know of its empiric effectiveness.

Any stimulant medications are going to help with binge eating,
I amm prescribed dexamphetamine which is pretty much just IR vyanese and yes you don't eat as much food as before.

If you do end up taking it remember to eat something and get a ECG taken to rule out any heart conditions, I don't know if you are obese and have high BP but that may stress your heart some more + amphetamine= hypertension (possibly).

I cant try vyanese as I was diagnosed over 18 and in Australia I cant get the med subsidised. poo shitt fu@ck

Vyvanese would be the best amphetamine to used due to limited spikes and troughs in effects. Some people don't like it as they are used to IR amphetamine salts that they are used to taking which give more of a quick boost of energy etc etc

I take 30 mg vyvanse for ADD inattentive type which hasn't really helped with binging unless I make a conscious effort  Yes it curbs my appetite during the daytime hours after I take it but I binge at night and think that the problem with any stimulant medication is that when it wears off you're going to be hungry. So IMHO the key is to have a plan of action via things you do (meditation/ exercise) or say to yourself as ways of handling that natural spike in appetite that's probably going to happen.

I take 70mg a day for ADD and it definitely suppresses my appetite. The kicker is, the days I take a break from it, I can't stop eating. So for binge eating, it makes me wonder if that would defeat the purpose.

Vyvanse was good when I took it, but my current insurance company doesn't cover it. :( It gave me consistent focus, no appetite (which is not as fun as some people might think!), and few crashes. Doctors like it better too.

To you and @alyssat, what was the indicating factor with your doctor for them to decide on putting you on Vyvanse? Because I know it can be used to treat multiple ADHD spectrums, including depression. Have they tried other medications that merely didn't work, or was it decided upon as the first option after discussing your symptoms? I am in my 40's and recently diagnosed by a friend who is a psychiatrist but cannot write me prescriptions, but I have been on Concerta for 6 months and this doctor thinks that Vyvanse may work better for me given that some of my anxiousness at the peak of Concerta might be too much. Any input from past medications to your personal experiences with Vyvanse and how to get a doctor to prescribe it for me would be great. What I can tell you is that all SSRI meds do not for me, just puts me into a dull fog, zero libido, and just overall meh. The Concerta I have been on is good, but I will when it peaks, because I am using the extended release formula, it's kind of unnerving to not have control over your anxiety for an hour to two exactly at the time you're not in a position to deal with it well at work. What is the fast track to getting a Vyvanse prescription without sounding like your pill shopping, because this is not the case.

Doctors claim it can't be abused. It is true that it can't be crushed etc. like some types of Ritalin and Adderall, but I believe people without ADHD could probably still take it orally and get a "speedy high" off it.

But currently, there's no generic Vyvanse. So it could really be big pharma pressuring doctors to prescribe it more than drugs that have generics.

@DancingWriter, I have been using 20mg of Vyvanse for the past 3 days and I find it to be mild or smoother than Concerta. I had been taking 36mg of Concerta for a few months and it definitely has more "edge" to it, even if I took at 27mg. I do find that the Concerta has more peaks and valleys during the day, whereas the Vyvanse is more linear through the day. As far as appetite goes I would say that Concerta definitely curbs the desire to eat, at least for me. I'm sure if I were I were on a higher dose of Vyvanse I might say they are alike, which is why I'll likely try a higher dose at least once.

I completely agree about the docs likely to give me Vyvanse if given the chance, it's definitely going to benefit their drug reps.

I have a question to the users, who are regularly take Vyvanse: I have take Vyvanse for 4 weeks and in this 4 weeks i already lost much body weight. I know, this is a common side effect, but in my case the body weight loss was very much.

Do you also have this side effect? (losing some pounds is probably normal, but i lost very many pounds..)

@dragonxp
Yeah, I think most everybody has weight loss with vyvanse.
You have to be more conscious of eating otherwise you'll completely forget to eat. It's actually prescribed for binge eating disorder because of that, actually.

I was taking phentermine when I started on Vyvanse a few years ago and at that point my doc took me off the phen.
I have noticed no difference as both seem to do well at controlling my appetite.

I was on vyvanse for ADD and it helped with my appetite. The only problem was I couldn’t sleep and I had to choose between vyvanse and ambien. I function better with vyvanse, but staying up for days stops me from functioning. I didn’t think it would be a problem, but as they say “Dr knows best”. I don’t know who “they” are, but I do know I was better taking 1 vyvanse in the morning and very productive and 1 ambien at night to sleep. I think that was when I was at my best physically (for sure) and mentally. Maybe I will see if I can try that again.

Do not have any experience with it. How does it differ from Adderall in terms of ADDHD? Is it a slow release, instant release or both?

Hi DW4210

Yes did try, so allergic to stimulants, had to go with child dose of dexadrine. Still unresolved.

thank you for sharing

I just tried this and I have to say- I am impressed! My doctor started me on the lowest does and I felt something the first day. Anyone else here have experience with this drug? Any thoughts? I like it because it lasts longer throughout the day than Adderall. There are no late afternoon crashes.

oops

Awesome Skookums,

Hi there Mitch,

Thank you so much for sharing; also ADHD and in my fifties, used to work in my favour back in the day.
What dose did you notice the change?

many thanks (-:

I've been on ADHD medication since I was 8. Even participated in a clinical trial for a ADHD med years ago. Vyvanse, worked actually great for a little while. The first month or so, it worked great, just fine. Than.... it stopped working. My doctor kept having to increase my dose so much so, that I maxed out in less than 6 months. Even after that, My Grades begin to slip so badly, I almost failed a grade while I was in High School. That medication which I thought was a wonderful new miracle, I ended up hating.

Now... I know, a lot of people have success on Vyvanse. But, I swear. I think Adderal is a 1000x Better. I've been on 30mg since what, seems like forever.. and it still works fine for me.

Someone mentioned Abuse, Lol, I hate the stuff, Is that normal? Trying to get a handle on my ADD, thank you all !

Many thanks,

Perhaps I have been mis diagnosed, just,, go off the wall on this stuff, write a book or just yap on here ..Yikes
